Just a few short months after it began, Avelo Airlines is waving goodbye to its Salem to Sonoma County route.

The decision, as explained by airline officials, comes down to insufficient demand for the flights. The final journey on this route will take off on September 2. However, travelers need not despair entirely; Avelo will continue its flights from Salem to the bustling cities of Las Vegas and the Los Angeles area.
Avelo Airlines had the honor of being the first to revive commercial service at the Salem Airport last October, marking a significant milestone after nearly 15 years of silence in the skies over Salem.
In February, they proudly announced a new route to the Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport, a gateway to the Bay Area and the enchanting Sonoma wine country.
Back in October, Salem’s airport buzzed with excitement as commercial air service made its grand return, courtesy of Avelo.
Avelo officials had hinted at the possibility of adding more destinations from Salem in 2024, a tantalizing prospect for frequent flyers and adventure seekers alike.
Operating out of Houston, Avelo Airlines is known as an ultra-low-cost carrier, connecting 45 destinations across 24 states, weaving a vast web of travel opportunities for budget-conscious travelers.
And so, while the Sonoma route may be closing, the story of Avelo and Salem’s skies continues, with many more chapters yet to unfold.
