In the dim light of a late June evening, the normally quiet streets of downtown Salem were shattered by the echo of gunfire. On June 29, just past nine o'clock, Salem Police responded swiftly to reports of a young boy wounded. They found him, a 16-year-old, gravely injured with a gunshot wound to his neck, lying on Mill Street SE.

Fast forward to August 6, and the authorities had finally apprehended the suspected perpetrator—a 19-year-old man from Stayton. He now languished in the cold confines of Marion County Jail, facing the gravest of charges: attempted murder, first-degree assault, and unlawful weapon use.

The arraignment was set for the following day, August 7, where the wheels of justice would begin to turn, unraveling the mystery of that fateful June night.
