Quick Read

  • Sony and its affiliates will not exhibit at CES 2027, ending a run that dates to the first show in 1967, Bloomberg reported Sept. 28.

  • CES 2027 adds a Health Hub presented by Abbott at the Venetian and a new advanced manufacturing and robotic automation area in South Hall 3 of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

  • CES Foundry, the show's AI and quantum hub at Fontainebleau Las Vegas, grows from two days to three, Jan. 6-8.

  • CTA says robot dexterity, practical business AI and AI chips beyond processors are trends to watch, and Salem's Agility Robotics was named among robot makers likely to show off that dexterity.

CES 2027 is still 75 days out, but the organizers have spent October on the road. The Consumer Technology Association, which owns and runs the show, held preview events in Seoul, Hong Kong and Milan this month, and each stop added a few more pieces to the picture of what January in Las Vegas will look like.

Here's what's changed since our last look: new places to go on the show floor, one very big name missing, and the trends CTA says will matter most.

The basics

  • Show floor: Wednesday, Jan. 6, through Saturday, Jan. 9, 2027, in Las Vegas. Media days and CES Unveiled Las Vegas come first, on Jan. 4 and 5.

  • Who can go: CES is a trade-only event for people 18 and older who work in or with the tech industry.

  • Cost: a Standard Pass is $149 through Nov. 30 and $349 from Dec. 1, according to CES pricing.

CES 2027 runs Jan. 6-9, 2027, in Las Vegas. This search is set for Jan. 5-9 check-in and checkout. Hotels near the show fill up early.

Three new places on the map

A Health Hub at the Venetian. New for 2027, the CES Health Hub presented by Abbott sits at the center of the health show floor at the Venetian, Jan. 6-9. CES says it will cover AI, connected devices, digital therapeutics, remote care, precision medicine and consumer wellness, with its own Health Stage, according to the Health Hub page. At the Milan preview, CTA president and CEO Kinsey Fabrizio called health care one of the best uses for AI, La Ecuación Digital reported.

A floor for the parts that build robots. CTA is setting up a dedicated advanced manufacturing and robotic automation space in South Hall 3 of the Las Vegas Convention Center. The North Hall has been where robots show off what they can do. The South Hall space will focus on the components and manufacturing technology that go into them, Chosunbiz reported from CTA's Oct. 14 briefing in Seoul.

A longer CES Foundry. CES Foundry, the AI and quantum computing hub that debuted at CES 2026, returns to Fontainebleau Las Vegas for three days instead of two, Jan. 6-8, according to CES. Chosunbiz reported that it will also include a separate area for companies building agentic AI, the kind of software that carries out tasks on its own.

The big name that won't be there

Sony and its affiliates will not exhibit at CES 2027, a Sony spokesperson confirmed to Bloomberg on Sept. 28. Sony products were on display at the very first CES in 1967, and the company has long had one of the biggest booths on the floor.

Sony said it is focusing more on entertainment, intellectual property and technology for creators. It did not have its own booth at CES 2026, but the Afeela electric car from its Honda joint venture was shown there before that EV project was scrapped, Engadget reported.

What CTA says to watch

At the Seoul preview on Oct. 13, CTA vice president of innovation and trends Brian Comiskey laid out the themes CTA expects at the show, according to the Seoul Economic Daily.

  • AI that pays its way. CTA expects the focus to shift from how widely companies use AI to what it does for revenue and efficiency, with agentic AI and industry-specific AI drawing attention.

  • Robot hands. Dexterity, meaning precise hand movement, touch sensing and handling objects, is the key competitive factor for robots. Korea's Rainbow Robotics, China's AgiBot and Salem's Agility Robotics were among the companies named as likely to show that kind of technology. Bosch Korea's Marcello Lusuardi said tactile and pressure sensors that adjust grip strength like a human will become important, Chosunbiz reported.

  • Chips beyond the processor. The AI chip race is widening into memory, interconnect chips and custom chips, with SK hynix, Marvell and NXP named as companies to watch.

  • Foundation, transformation, exploration. CTA groups the show into three layers: AI, chips and energy as the foundation; robots, self-driving cars and smart homes as the technology putting it to work; and quantum computing and space tech as the frontier.

For Salem readers, the robot trend lands close to home. We covered what CES's focus on working robots means for Agility, the maker of the Digit humanoid, in our Oct. 14 story.

Startups punch their tickets

Two of the preview stops doubled as tryouts for Eureka Park, the startup area at CES. In Milan on Oct. 21, the Swiss startup Optohive, a spin-off of the ETH Zurich university, won the CES Unveiled Milan pitch competition and a booth in Eureka Park, askanews reported. Its HiveOne wearable uses optical sensors to track changes in blood oxygen in the brain as a measure of brain activity, according to IO+. The Hong Kong preview on Oct. 14 offered the same Eureka Park prize, according to CTA.

Dates to watch before January

  • Nov. 9: CTA reveals the CES Innovation Awards 2027 honorees, with some embargoed products held until Jan. 4, according to the awards timeline. This year adds an Art Tech category, developed with Christie's, according to CTA.

  • Nov. 30: last day for the $149 Standard Pass and the $1,450 Premium Pass.

  • Jan. 4: CES Unveiled Las Vegas, the media preview night, and the Innovation Awards embargo lifts.

  • Jan. 6: the show floor opens, alongside the first day of keynotes.

CES tech you can already buy

Some CES ideas reach stores fast. Roborock debuted the Roborock Saros Z70, a robot vacuum with a folding OmniGrip arm that can pick up small items like socks, at CES 2025, The Verge reported. It is now on sale. If the Health Hub has you thinking about connected health gear, the Withings Body Smart scale tracks weight and body composition and syncs over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
