Quick Read

  • Turo said Monday it is launching the first verified Tesla Full Self-Driving (Supervised) rental experience in the U.S., with guest search and booking starting Oct. 28.

  • Turo will use a direct Tesla API connection so listings show FSD (Supervised) only when a host's Tesla account is linked and the feature is active.

  • FSD (Supervised) is advanced driver assistance, not autonomous driving. Renters must stay attentive and be ready to take over at any time.

  • Willamette Valley travelers can look for FSD-enabled Teslas on Turo, including a Salem-hosted Model 3 listed through Oregon Critter & Travel Co.

Car rental marketplace Turo announced Monday that it is partnering with Tesla to let U.S. guests search for, discover and book Tesla vehicles with Full Self-Driving (Supervised) activated. The verified FSD experience is set to go live on the Turo marketplace on Oct. 28.

For travelers in the Willamette Valley who have never sat in a Tesla with FSD turned on, the change matters. Instead of relying on a host's word alone, Turo says it will confirm FSD status through a direct API link with Tesla once a host connects their Tesla account.

What Turo and Tesla are launching

According to Turo's press release and Turo's host update, guests will be able to find FSD-enabled Teslas in search and on vehicle listings starting Oct. 28. Turo says thousands of FSD-enabled Teslas are already listed on the platform.

Tesla's Model 3 and Model Y are already the third- and fourth-most popular models on Turo so far this year, Turo said, so the feature touches a large share of the fleet renters already book.

Turo CEO Andre Haddad called the deal an "industry-first integration with Tesla" and said most travelers have had limited chances to try advanced driver assistance. Turo cited its own research showing 55% of Americans are interested in driverless technology for travel, rising to 71% among Gen Z.

Coverage from TechCrunch and Electrek framed the partnership as a way for Tesla to put FSD in front of people who do not own a Tesla, while giving Turo a verified filter competitors do not have.

What FSD (Supervised) actually is

This is the key caution for anyone renting. Turo's host guidance is clear: Full Self-Driving (Supervised) is an advanced driver assistance feature. It requires the driver's full attention, and the driver must be ready to take over at any time. It does not make a Tesla autonomous.

Before pickup, Turo encourages guests to review Tesla's Full Self-Driving (Supervised) documentation and applicable safety guidelines. TechCrunch reported that renters will also see cautionary language in the Turo app and can view a Tesla-created tutorial.

In short: you are still the driver. FSD can handle many routine tasks under supervision, but you remain responsible for safely operating the car.

How hosts make FSD visible

Hosts who own Teslas link their Tesla account to Turo. Once connected, Turo automatically verifies and displays FSD (Supervised) status when it is active on the vehicle. Hosts will no longer need Extras or custom vehicle features to advertise FSD.

Turo's FAQ also says FSD (Supervised) cannot be offered as a paid Extra. When the new experience is live, Turo will remove Extra or custom-feature options that hosts used to highlight FSD.

Eligible U.S. hosts may receive a free one-month FSD (Supervised) trial subscription starting Nov. 16, according to Turo. Eligibility rules include owning (not leasing) a Tesla with eligible AI4 hardware, linking a Tesla account, having completed at least one Turo trip as a host, and not having an active or recently paid FSD subscription that would disqualify the trial. Full details are on Turo's host page for FSD.

Trying it in the Willamette Valley

For Salem, Portland and mid-valley travelers, the practical takeaway is simpler: starting Oct. 28, you can search Turo specifically for Teslas with verified FSD (Supervised) turned on, then book one for a weekend trip, airport run or coast day.

Locally, Oregon Critter & Travel Co. hosts electric cars in Salem through Turo, including a red 2023 Tesla Model 3. The listing covers phone-key access, pets OK and delivery around Salem, including the Salem airport. Check the Turo listing for current availability, pricing and trip rules. Pricing always comes from Turo, not from Willamette News or ORCritters.

More detail on that Model 3, including first-time Tesla tips and charging notes for Salem Superchargers, is on ORCritters' Model 3 page. You can also browse the full host profile on Turo or start at orcritters.com.

What renters should do before pickup

  • Confirm the listing shows verified FSD (Supervised) once the Oct. 28 marketplace feature is live.

  • Read Tesla's FSD (Supervised) safety documentation before you drive.

  • Plan to keep your hands ready and your eyes on the road the entire time FSD is engaged.

  • Ask the host how to enable FSD in that car if you have never used it.

  • Remember that FSD can become unavailable for reasons such as camera issues, and you must be ready to drive normally.

Bottom line

The partnership is real and confirmed by Turo's Oct. 26 announcement: verified Tesla FSD (Supervised) rentals on Turo for U.S. guests, launching Oct. 28, with host account linking and a limited free host trial later in November. It is not a promise of driverless cars. It is a clearer way for curious travelers to try Tesla's supervised driver assistance on a rental, including options based in Salem through ORCritters and Turo.
