SALEM, Ore. - The National Weather Service in Portland issued a Dense Fog Advisory at 6:40 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, for the Salem area and much of the northern Willamette Valley. It takes effect at 1 a.m. Sunday and runs until 10 a.m. Sunday.

Forecasters expect visibility of one quarter mile or less in dense fog, and say the low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous. It's the second fog advisory of the weekend; an earlier advisory covered Saturday morning until noon.

Daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, when clocks fall back an hour. The weather service lists the advisory end time as 10 a.m. Pacific Standard Time, which is the new clock time.

Where it applies

The advisory covers the East Central and West Central Willamette Valley, which include Salem, Keizer and much of Marion and Polk counties. It also covers the Tualatin Valley, the Portland metro area and the Lower Columbia River in Oregon, plus the Inner Vancouver Metro and the Cowlitz County, North Clark County and East Clark County lowlands in Washington.

What to do

The weather service says drivers should slow down and leave plenty of distance ahead of them. Pedestrians and cyclists should wear bright or reflective clothing to increase the chances of being seen in poor visibility.
