NFL Week 6 roundup: 49ers chase 6-0 on Monday night as Seahawks regroup

Seattle has the rest of the weekend off after its second loss in five days, and the team that started that skid is chasing history. The San Francisco 49ers (5-0) host the Washington Commanders (1-3-1) on Monday night with a chance to start 6-0 for the fourth time in franchise history, according to the NFL's Week 6 preview.
Here is our weekly look around the league: the rest of Week 5, the Players of the Week, the biggest trades and suspensions, and the Week 6 games worth your Sunday. For the Seahawks' games themselves, see our recaps of the 49ers' 32-29 win in Seattle and Thursday's 17-14 overtime loss in Denver.
Seahawks: 3-3 and a long weekend to regroup
Seattle does not play again until the Kansas City Chiefs visit Lumen Field on Sunday, Oct. 25. Coming off a Thursday game, the team has the weekend off and returns to work Monday, Seahawks.com reported, and it could get some help back.
Right guard Anthony Bradford, on injured reserve after missing four games, "has a really good chance of being back this week," coach Mike Macdonald said. Rookie running back Jadarian Price, also on IR, has to miss at least one more game but is making good progress. Macdonald had no update on Zach Charbonnet, who has returned to practice but has not been activated from the physically unable to perform list.
Tight end Elijah Arroyo, who left the Denver game with a shoulder injury, was getting tests Friday. "He's getting some imaging and testing as we speak, so no update yet," Macdonald said.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba remains the bright spot. He entered Week 6 leading the NFL with 583 receiving yards and seven touchdown catches, according to the league. His 102-yard, one-touchdown day against San Francisco made him the fourth player in NFL history with 100 receiving yards and a touchdown catch in four of his team's first five games, joining Hall of Famers Elroy "Crazylegs" Hirsch, Randy Moss and Jerry Rice.
The Chiefs game will bring a familiar face back to Seattle. Kenneth Walker III, the Super Bowl LX MVP, left the Seahawks for Kansas City on a three-year deal worth up to $45 million when free agency opened, NFL.com reported. He entered Week 6 with 621 scrimmage yards and six touchdowns this season, per the NFL.
49ers: unbeaten, but thinner
San Francisco's win in Seattle cost it receiver Deebo Samuel, who hurt his right hamstring in the third quarter. Coach Kyle Shanahan said the injury "got him pretty good" and that Samuel is "going to miss some time," ESPN reported. On Thursday, Shanahan said injured reserve "is a possibility," but the team was holding off because of its Week 8 bye, according to Niners Wire. Linebacker Garret Wallow (hamstring) is expected to miss at least a couple of weeks, per 49ers.com.
Linebacker Dre Greenlaw will also sit Monday. The NFL suspended him one game without pay for head-butting Seahawks linebacker Ernest Jones IV, who was not wearing a helmet, in the second quarter in Seattle. Hearing officer James Thrash upheld the suspension, Pro Football Talk reported. Greenlaw is eligible to return Oct. 20.
Monday's game at Levi's Stadium (5:15 p.m. PT, ESPN/ABC) has more riding on it than a 6-0 start. The 49ers are 55-32 on Monday Night Football, tied with Pittsburgh for the most Monday wins in NFL history, and a win would give them the outright lead, according to 49ers.com. Brock Purdy leads the league with 13 touchdown passes and is three away from 100 for his career. Former linebacker Keena Turner will be inducted into the team's Hall of Fame at halftime.
Washington's Jayden Daniels returned from an elbow injury in Week 5 and ran for touchdowns of 38 and 26 yards against the Giants. The NFL says he is the second quarterback since 1950 with two rushing scores of 25 or more yards in one game, joining Mike Vick. That game ended in a 27-27 tie after Washington, with no timeouts, could not get a spike off before overtime expired, NFL.com reported.
Ducks in the NFL: a rough stretch for Nix and Herbert
Former Oregon quarterback Bo Nix got the win over Seattle, but not the reviews. Nix completed 17 of 27 passes for 107 yards with no touchdowns Thursday, and Amazon Prime analyst Ryan Fitzpatrick said afterward that Nix "is not playing competitively," Ducks Wire reported.
A week earlier, Nix led Denver to 13 unanswered fourth-quarter points in a 23-17 win over the Chargers. The NFL says his 13 career fourth-quarter or overtime game-winning drives are tied with Justin Herbert and Matt Ryan for the second most by a player in his first three seasons since 1970.
Herbert, who played his college ball at Oregon, was on the other side of that game. He made his 100th NFL start behind a line with four rookies, three of them making their first starts, and without his top two receivers, NFL.com reported. He finished 14 of 24 for 121 yards with a touchdown and an interception. The Chargers (0-5) visit the unbeaten Chiefs (4-0) on Sunday, and their offense ranks 30th in success rate and last in EPA per play, according to the Chargers' own team website.
Week 5 around the league
Walk-off in London. Jacksonville beat Philadelphia 19-17 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when Cam Little hit a 57-yard field goal as time expired, after Jake Elliott's 48-yarder had put the Eagles ahead with eight seconds left. The NFL says it was the first game of the Super Bowl era in which both teams scored go-ahead points in the final 10 seconds of the fourth quarter.
Rodgers climbs again. Aaron Rodgers threw three touchdown passes, including an 80-yarder to Jaylen Warren, in Pittsburgh's 34-22 win over Indianapolis. That gave him 582 career touchdown passes including the playoffs, passing Peyton Manning (579) for third all time behind Tom Brady and Drew Brees.
Maye's big day. New England's Drake Maye threw for 374 yards and four touchdowns and ran for another in a 45-17 rout of Las Vegas. At 24 years and 42 days old, he is the youngest player ever with 350 passing yards, four touchdown passes, a passer rating of 150 or higher and a rushing touchdown in one game. Raiders rookie Fernando Mendoza, the 2026 No. 1 overall pick, made his NFL debut in relief, NFL.com reported.
Monday thriller. Buffalo won 37-34 in overtime at the Los Angeles Rams after Greg Rousseau blocked a 48-yard field goal try that would have won it. The Bills kicked the winner five plays later.
Ravens rally. With Lamar Jackson out, Tyler Huntley led Baltimore back from a 23-15 deficit with 2:25 left and scored the winning 1-yard touchdown in a 30-23 overtime win at Atlanta. Calais Campbell played in his 283rd game, the most ever by a defensive lineman, NFL.com reported.
Still perfect. Minnesota beat New Orleans 23-13 to reach 5-0 and is off this week. Kansas City (4-0) and San Francisco (5-0) are the league's other unbeaten teams.
Week 5 Players of the Week
AFC offense: Pittsburgh running back Jaylen Warren, career-high 188 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns against Indianapolis. He is the first player in 40 seasons with an 80-yard touchdown catch and a 50-yard touchdown run in the same game.

AFC special teams: Buffalo linebacker Greg Rousseau, for the overtime field goal block against the Rams.

NFC special teams: 49ers punter Corliss Waitman, five punts for 216 yards, all inside the 20 and three inside the 10, in the win at Seattle.
Trades and suspensions
Arizona traded receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., the No. 4 pick in the 2024 draft, and a 2027 sixth-round pick to Houston for 2027 second- and seventh-round picks, NFL.com reported. He reunites with his Ohio State quarterback, C.J. Stroud, on a Texans team that got its first win of the season, 26-3 at Tennessee, the same weekend.
Philadelphia agreed Oct. 7 to trade two-time Pro Bowl center Cam Jurgens and a 2027 seventh-round pick to Baltimore for a 2027 fifth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick, the Eagles announced. NFL.com noted the Eagles also lost veteran lineman Lane Johnson to retirement that same week.
The league suspended Rams offensive lineman Alaric Jackson two games without pay for striking Bills linebacker Bradley Chubb in the face during postgame handshakes Monday night. He will miss Sunday's game against Arizona and the Oct. 25 game against Las Vegas.
