SALEM, Ore. - The National Weather Service in Portland issued a Dense Fog Advisory at 8:44 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, for the Salem area and much of western Oregon. It takes effect at 1 a.m. Monday and runs until 10 a.m. Monday.
Forecasters expect visibility of one quarter mile or less in dense fog, and say the low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous. It's the third fog advisory for the valley in three days, after advisories on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
The advisory covers the Monday morning commute, so drivers on I-5, OR-22 and local roads should plan extra travel time.
Where it applies
The advisory covers the East Central and West Central Willamette Valley, which include Salem, Keizer and much of Marion and Polk counties. It also covers the Benton, Linn and Lane county lowlands, the North and Central Oregon Coast Range lowlands, the Tualatin Valley, the Portland metro area and the Lower Columbia River in Oregon, plus the Inner Vancouver Metro and the Cowlitz County, North Clark County and East Clark County lowlands in Washington.
What to do
The weather service says drivers should slow down and leave plenty of distance ahead of them. Pedestrians and cyclists should wear bright or reflective clothing to increase the chances of being seen in poor visibility.
